This test evaluates ovarian function and reproductive readiness by measuring the level of follicle stimulating hormone in your blood. FSH stimulates the ovaries to produce eggs and control the menstrual cycle. High FSH levels in the presence of normal estrogen can indicate the start of menopause, declining ovarian function, or perimenopause.

This test measures the level of progesterone in your blood. Progesterone helps maintain the lining of the uterus and support fertilization. Typically, progesterone levels rise midway through the menstrual cycle. Low levels of progesterone can be a sign of premenopause, uterine fibroids, or a uterine cyst.
